Member Appreciation Party

Sunday, December 8th, 4:30PM-6:30PM, 6757 Greene St.

You dedicated your time to helping support democracy and you deserve an opportunity to hang out with friends and allies in a supportive environment, to talk through things, share stories, and plan for what's coming.

So, we are hosting a Member Appreciation party at Summit Presbyterian Church on Sunday, December 8th, starting at 4:30PM (after the Eagles game).

There will be plenty of food, but if you want to bring a special dish of your own, please let us know when you sign up.

What Do We Do Now?

There seems to be no let-up to the absurd and dangerous onslaught from the tangerine traitor. His nominees for his cabinet read like a bad joke, and the policies they will be implementing - purging our government of anyone who would provide safeguards, threatening to conduct mass-deportation, labeling opposition as "the enemy within", threatening what's left of independent media, and cozying up to dictators - are meant to overwhelm us with despair.

But, we're not going to let them roll over us without a fight. That resistance starts today with a clear acknowledgement that we face very challenging times ahead, and a determination that whatever comes our way, we will handle it, and we'll do it together with our friends and neighbors and allies. Our organizations may have different names, but we all roll together.

Join a Planning Team

We expect that the trump regime will aggressively implement policies that will have grave consequences for members of our community, likely starting with our most vulnerable. We won't know some things until they roll out, but we can make some good guesses at what they will be. So, we need to plan our responses. And we'll need teams of dedicated activists to support and lead this work.

Tell Cindy Bass to Get Off the Sidelines on the Arena

After two days of hearings, City Council members have pressed the Mayor's administration and the billionaire developers’ henchmen with tough, pointed questions about the arena. The hearings made it even clearer that City Council's time is wasted entertaining this half-baked project that brings with it more risks than benefits, while SEPTA is in financial crisis and public schools are at risk of closing. Still, Councilmember Cindy Bass hasn’t taken a public position on the arena.

We are joining our allies at API PA to call on Councilmember Cindy Bass to get off the sidelines and stand with we the people in blocking this arena that will profit developers without benefiting our city. Her office can be reached at 215-686-3424 and her email is cindy.bass@phila.gov

Here is a sample script: My name is _______________ and I’m calling from the ______________ neighborhood to thank CM Bass for asking tough questions in the arena hearings about the high costs to SEPTA, the crumbs of the Community Benefits Agreement, and the lack of protections for Philadelphians while billionaires benefit.

I am asking CM Bass to come out publicly against this arena in Chinatown, and giving away $700 million in tax revenues to billionaires and developers, when that money can be used to help fix very real problems our residents face on a daily basis.

This Week in History

Nov 18, 1872 – Anthony Arrested for "Illegal Voting".  Two weeks after voting in the presidential election, civil rights activist Susan B. Anthony was arrested, and fined $100 for voting illegally. “I shall never pay a dollar of your unjust penalty,” she said.

Nov. 19, 1863 – Gettysburg Address. This day marks the anniversary of Lincoln's famous address to commemorate those lost in the battle, and to remind a war-weary public why the Union had to fight, and win, the Civil War.

Thanks for your activism!
