Here are PNN's candidate recommendations for the General Election on Tuesday, November 4th.
What is often a sleepy election full of judges has become a hotly contested Retention race and a clarion call to protect our democracy.
YES votes for DONOHUE, DOUGHERTY AND WECHT!
Three of the seven PA Supreme Court Justices - Democrats DONOHUE, DOUGHERTY and WECHT - are up for retention and they all have an excellent history of decision-making. With their votes, the PA Supreme Court upheld the rights of the electorate - from abortion rights, to voting and environmental rights, and many others, including our right to democracy. And these justices ruled against the GOP-gerrymandered map that would have assured Republican majorities in our House and Senate for years to come.
But dark forces are at work in PA. Millions of dollars have been spent by Jeffrey Yass and his ilk to buy shamefully deceptive ads that have been sent to homes all around the state. You may have gotten one.
These mailers are lying to voters that if they want to assure women's rights, voting rights, a fair legislative map and democracy itself that they should vote NO for these Supreme Court justices. They even used a map on the flier that was drawn up by the GOP and blamed the Justices who voted against it for gerrymandering! This cynical attempt to confuse voters is just dirty-politics-as-usual for the morbidly-rich predator class.
So, it is important to let our voters know that if we want to assure our rights, we need to keep these Justices on the bench. And that will require our YES votes for DONOHUE, DOUGHERTY AND WECHT.
Please tell all your friends, relatives and neighbors to vote YES for these Supreme Court judges. If we lose the current Democratic majority on the Court, the Republicans will have control of the Court during the 2026 elections, and all of our lives will be changed negatively by the consequences.
