PNN is helping lead Project Beloved Community, a ten-year plan to build 72,200 permanently affordable homes, put 50,000 more Black Philadelphians into living-wage jobs, cut Black poverty by as much as half, and reduce gun violence by 90 percent in the neighborhoods that carry the heaviest concentration of it. More than 52,000 of those homes can be built with the City’s own resources, without waiting for permission – or for help – from any other branch of government. The rest would come from the institutions that profited most from what was taken out of Black Philadelphia through redlining, urban “renewal” and other devices. We are told goals like these are impossible. We are told that without federal help, the City’s only options are business tax cuts and hoping the benefits trickle down. Project Beloved Community rejects both claims. Philadelphia is not helpless. Our city has the resources to create real opportunity and to improve people’s lives. The problem is that too much of that wealth sits in too few hands — and too much of what we already own is put to work somewhere else. Our own pension funds, with assets of $10.67 BILLION, are managed on Wall Street and invested everywhere but here. Project Beloved Community is a practical strategy to mobilize the resources already in the city, reclaim the public assets placed under Wall Street control, and put them to work for Philadelphians. We'll canvass neighbors to sign a petition in support of PBC and turn out to other town halls in the Fall and winter so that this campaign becomes a priority issue in 2027. We'll pair you up with experienced canvassers if this is your first time door-knocking, and we'll offer training before we hit the streets. In addition to our Town Hall, we are spreading info on Project Beloved Community door-to-door. We'll canvass neighbors to sign a petition in support of the Project and ti turn out to other town halls to learn about, and then make this campaign a priority in 2027. Join us again this week on the grounds of the Allens Lane Train Station located at 7200 Cresheim Road starting at 1PM. We'll be targeting vulnerable incumbents who have voted time and again against helping Philly - things like refusing to raise the minimum wage, tying the hands of our District Attorney, or refusing to provide sufficient funding to our public schools. Here is an opportunity to stretch our influence beyond the City's boundaries to positively influence races elsewhere in Pennsylvania. The goal is to catalyze the next phase of the public banking movement at a moment when questions of economic justice and democratic resilience are reshaping the national conversation.
