PNN’s mission is to engage, educate and empower our neighbors to make our City a better place to live. Here’s what’s coming up:
_____________________________ PNN Actions __________________________________________________ Help Our Endorsed CandidatesWe are five days away from Election Day and we have candidates who can use your help - whether it's making calls or knocking doors or some other critical task that plays a role in deciding this election. Below are our endorsed candidates and how you can help them: Chris RabbOur endorsed candidate for the Third Congressional District is in a tight three-way race - competing against both AIPAC money and the political establishment - a heavy, but doable lift. We can make the difference in these last five days to swing the election to Chris Rabb by hitting the doors and having good conversations with our neighbors. Join us and allies in the NW Philly as we conduct six combined canvasses to help elect Chris Rabb, Art Haywood, Chris Johnson and our write-in Committee Persons. If you are willing to help on Saturday or would like to help on Election Day to cover a polling place , click the link below. Knock in NW Philly__________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Art Haywood, SD4Art Haywood is a favorite son of PNN, who we were excited to endorse for his first run in 2014. He remains our favorite state senator because he has been consistently aligned with our values as an organization, stood with us on the front lines, and is eager to work with us on issues. You can help him at the top of his district this Saturday by clicking below. Saturday Glenwood Canvass__________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Andre Carroll, HD201We are happy to endorse Andre Carroll for another term as State Representative. While he has the fortune of running unopposed, Rep. Carroll knows the importance of a helping hand in the waning days of an election, and he asks that you donate some of your time to help another of our endorsed candidates. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Chris Johnson, HD200Chris Johnson is our endorsed candidate running for State Representative in the 200th House District, the seat being vacated by Rep. Rabb. He has Rabb's endorsement and plans to continue his work in Harrisburg as a progressive champion for working-class Pennsylvanians - to fully fund our public schools, invest in SEPTA, and protect our civil rights and freedoms. You can help him get elected by volunteering to his campaign below. Sierra is a social worker who has been working in North Philly and Harrisburg to improve the social systems that often let people slip through the cracks. Her top legislative priorities are keeping SEPTA funded, protecting our neighbors from ICE, and making behavioral and mental health care accessible and affordable for all. Sierra's team has three launches currently planned for this weekend: Girard College on Friday 4-6PMAthletic Rec Center on Saturday11-1PM and 2-4 on Sunday 2-4PM__________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Support Our Write-In Committee Persons!Take a look at this list of divisions with open seats for Committee Person. Put it on your calendar now! 20th Celebration!__________________________ Actions with Our Allies ______________________________ Solidarity Rally Against Jim Crow LawsSaturday, May 16th, 2PM, West Side of City Hall, Dilworth Park You are invited to take part in a national day of action on Saturday. We will be gathering in support of fellow citizens who are the victims of the massive gerrymandering going on right now in "deep-red" states - because Trump knows that it is the only way he and his cronies can stay out of prison. The recent SCOTUS ruling lays bare the racist plans of the white nationalist criminal gang. With the highest court in the land and a cowed congress in the pocket of this regime, they are attempting to do everything they can to maintain their grip on political power in the face of a blue wave. That includes redistricting black and brown and progressive allies out of power with blatant power grabs; it includes purging voter rolls by Trump sycophants; and it includes federal goons at polling places in cities and black neighborhoods on Election Day. And if after all their cheating, they lose anyway? The Golden Gaff will likely declare martial law. Not a rosy scenario. So, what do we do? We show solidarity with each other because we know that the only way we get through this troubled time is to get through it together. History has shown that if a mere 3.5% of citizens stand together, plan together, and act together they can overthrow fascist regimes or stop them in their tracks before they get entrenched. So, when you finish your canvass shift on Saturday, head on over to City Hall to celebrate our solidarity! _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Word ScrambleFAHEESNNRCIClue: To grant someone the right to vote (suffrage) or to admit them to citizenship with full rights.
