November 18, 2008 "We are the Change" MeetingPeople Ready to Work for a Better CommunityBy Stan Diamond NN held its post-election meeting on November 17 at the First Unitiarian Chirch at 2125 Chestnut Street. It was a follow-up to the good work that we and so many of our invitees did during the successful Obama campaign. The purpose of the meeting was to organize to push a progressive agenda locally, statewide and nationally and to enlist those who are willing to work on issues between elections.... Great TurnoutThere was an audience of over 150 activists present when Gloria Gilman, NN Chairperson, called the meeting to order. We had a group of four speakers give inspiration and information for the assembled group. After that, we assembled in nine different neighborhood subgroups to arrange for future meetings and actions and to consider the issues which were introduced and the organizational tasks before us. The NN community was expanded by new persons in attendance. Group BreakoutUnfortunately, the group breakouts got started a bit late and did not have sufficient time for all the planning they could have done. Each group, however, did set a time to get together again, recorded their decisions, and seemed to make good use of whatever time they had. NN's refreshments and hospitality were appreciated and several productive city activists attended and participated. We will build from there and commit ourselves to be heard on all the important issues that the groups showed interest in.
