Opening of Obama Office in Germantown

NNers Attend Opening August 7

By Conni Bille, Germantown NN Coordinator

Several members of Germantown Neighborhood Networks joined the throng at the jam-packed opening of the Obama campaign office at 206 W Chelten Avenue on Thursday night August 7. The enthusiastic and diverse attendees at the meeting came from all sections of Northwest Philly - from Nicetown to Chestnut Hill. Most - including the Germantown contingent - had only a day's notice of the event.

At the meeting NN connected with the staff organizers assigned to our Wards. We had representatives present to cover all of the teams (each team covering two wards) Over the next week or so the Obama team leaders will meet with their respective groups. Most are convening at the Obama campaign office on Saturday August 9 between 10 and 2 PM.

...

US Representative Chaka Fattah told the assembly that a mighty effort to register voters and get out the vote will be needed in Philadelphia in order to deliver a Democratic victory in Pennsylvania. There is no doubt our state is in the cross-hairs of the Republican Party. Several delegates who will attend the Democtatic Convention and field organizers for the Obama campaign also spoke. Already a number of fund-raisers have been organized.

NN Helps with Contact Lists and People

Obama Organizers told NN that locating in Germantown was strategic and central to their main target for the campaign. Wayne and Chelten is a major transportation hub and free parking is available behind the office (enter the lot from Wayne Avenue).

Staff welcomed our presence and offer to provide contacts, skilled canvassers and experience. The office is so new it does not yet have a land line telephone and other infrastructure elements. Germantown NNers are helping them get some tools like maps and directories. So stop by for more details! See how you can help!
