Vote For Joe Hoeffel for Governor!!!!!

He Represents Our Values

The primary election to choose the Democratic candidate for Governor will be held on May 18. It's vitally important that the Democrats nominate a candidate who will fiercely and forcefully express progressive values in the November election that follows. Joe Hoeffel is that candidate.

Hoeffel is the only candidate who supports gay marriage, and repeal of Pennsylvania’s Abortion Control Act.

He is the only candidate who says that the state must maintain essential services through progressive taxation. In that vein he explicitly supports a constitutional amendment to enable Pennsylvania to enact a progressive income tax. He is the only candidate who favors repeal of the “Delaware Rule” that allows big corporations to hide their income and essentially avoid paying the PA corporate income tax.

More Reasons to Support Joe

Joe supports public financing of state and local election campaigns, the only way ultimately to level the playing field for candidates without big corporate supporters. Joe is the only candidate who supports limiting gun purchases to one a month, a key requirement for impeding the steady flow of arms into our City through straw purchasers.

Hoeffel is the only candidate committed to exploring a path toward single payer health care, although he is not endorsing any particular measure at this time. Only he and Wagner endorse automatic cost of living increases in the minimum wage.

Hoeffel calls for significant, immediate taxation on the extraction of gas from the Marcellus Shale, a point that he made at the recent candidate forum sponsored by NN. The proceeds of the tax would first go toward insuring that the extraction is done in an environmentally sound way. Second they would be used to support essential services.

Finally, Hoeffel is the only candidate who calls for amendment of the state constitution to allow state gasoline taxes to be used without restriction for mass transit programs.

Hoeffel is not a newcomer to progressive politics. As a former Congressperson, state legislator, and now as a County Commissioner, he has always been outspoken in his progressive views. We can count on him following through.
